Phylogenetic relationships amongst the snake-eyed lizards of the genus Ablepharus Fitzinger, 1823 (Sauria, Scincidae) in the Iranian Plateau based on mtDNA sequences

We recovered molecular phylogenetic relationships amongst species of the genus Ablepharus in Iran and Iraq. Partial sequences three mitochondrial genes (cytochrome C oxidase subunit I – COI, 12S rRNA 16S rRNA) were analysed. In addition, taxonomic evaluation Cyprus, India, Greece, Turkey Syria performed using partial gene. Phylogenetic trees estimated genetic distances showed that populations Iraq clustered into distinct clades. One is found northwest ( A. bivittatus Ardabil, East West Azerbaijan Hamedan Provinces). The second clade, formed by chernovi , only Uromia. third most heterogeneous clade divided two subclades, first includes lineages Khorasan Razavi Semnan Provinces pannonicus ) eastern south-eastern grayanus ); subclade distributed part west south-western sp.).
